I. At the Entrance

I.1. It is strongly urged that coats, jackets, briefcases, bookbags, etc. be left at the cloakroom. Personal belongings may be subject to search on leaving the library.

I.2. The library collection is protected by an electronic checkpoint at the exit. If the alarm goes off, please cooperate with the library staff. You may be subject to a body search.

I.3. You must fill out a "Bilkent University Library Registration Form". Registered library users must present their "Bilkent University I.D. Card" (or their "Bilkent University Library User Card") to borrow or return books. Books on loan to the user with their due dates may be viewed by the borrower by selecting "Library Borrower Functions" on a library OPAC terminal.

II. Borrowing Books, Bound Journals and Non-Book Materials

II.1. Bilkent University academic staff and research assistants may borrow up to 40 books, 40 supplements,  15 CD-ROMs, 15 compact discs, 4 bound journals, 4 VCDs, 4 DVDs, 4 videocassettes, 4 audiocassettes and 4 music cassettes/CDs at a time. Books and their supplements are lent for a semester; CD-ROMs, compact discs, journals, VCDs, DVDs, videocassettes for 15 days;  music cassettes and  CDs for 7 days.

II.2. Bilkent University part-time academic staff and graduate students may borrow up to 20 books and 20 supplements, 4 bound journals, 10 CD-ROMs, 10 compact discs, 4 VCDs, 4 DVDs, 4 videocassettes, 4 audiocassettes and 4 music cassettes/CDs at a time. Books and their supplements are lent  for one month; journals, CD-ROMs, compact discs, VCDs, DVDs, videocassettes, audiocassettes for 15 days;  music cassettes ans CDs for 7 days.

II.3. Bilkent University undergraduates and administrative staff may borrow up to 15 books and 15 supplements, 2 bound journals, 7 CD-ROMs, 7 compact discs, 4 VCDs, 4 DVDs, 4 videocassettes, 4 audiocassettes and  4 music cassettes/CDs at a time. Books and their supplements, journals are  lent 15 days; CD-ROMs, compact discs,  VCDs, DVDs, videocassettes, audiocassettes and music cassettes/CDs for 7 days.

II.4. The above loan periods may be extended twice, provided there has been no request for the materials. Materials to be renewed should be brought to the library.

II.5. The Music Room, Art Library , Audio Visual and European Documentation Centre collections are governed by special rules.

II.6. Easy Reading books may be borrowed two at a time for 7 days.

II.7. Inter-library loan/photocopy requests are governed by special rules.

II.8. The library reserves the right to recall borrowed material before the due date.

III. Overdue and Lost Books, Journals and Non-Book Materials

III.1. Although the library will attempt to notify readers when materials are past due, the borrower bears full responsibility for their timely return.

III.2. A fine per book, journal or non-book item per day is charged for late returns.

III.3. Materials overdue by more than one month will be treated as lost.

III.4. When 10 items have been returned overdue, the reader will be notified by the library. If he or she returns another 10 items after the due date, borrowing privileges will be suspended for the remainder of the semester.

III.5.In the case of loss of a book, journal or non-book item, the reader will be obliged to pay its replacement value in Turkish liras at the Central Bank rate of exchange prevailing on the day of payment, plus 50%, together with the amount owing for late returns as of the date on which the item is reported as lost.

IV. Reserve Materials

IV.1. Items on reserve are lent for two hours. If not requested by another reader, they may be borrowed for an additional two hours. If there are two or more copies of an item on reserve, all but one may also be borrowed after 9:30 p.m. until 10:00 a.m. the next day.

IV.2. A fine of 2.5 times the daily rate is charged for each hour or partial hour in the case of reserve materials returned late.

IV.3. Library users who return overnight loans late twice will not be permitted to borrow overnight.

ANYONE MISUSING OR DAMAGING LIBRARY MATERIALS OR PREMISES WILL BE SUBJECT TO DISCIPLINARY MEASURES
