ABOUT THE LIBRARY
Heads of Departments

The Bilkent University Library collections are housed in a four-story building at the center of the Main Campus and, on the East Campus, on the top floor of the Cafeteria Building.

A. HOURS:
The Main and East Campus Libraries have different working hours.
Changes in the hours during holidays are announced in advance. Some sections of the library have special working hours.

B. WHO MAY USE THE LIBRARY?
The libraries are organized to serve the Bilkent student body, academic and administrative staff. Users from outside Bilkent are also welcome.

Please see the Library Rules web page or ask at the Circulation Desk for more information.

C. HOW TO BORROW LIBRARY MATERIALS
Bilkent users are required to present their identity document at the circulation desk with the items they wish to borrow. Non-Bilkent users should fill out a Bilkent University Library Registration Form in order to borrow materials. Materials which are not lent, such as reference books, can usually be photocopied. There is a fee for that service.

The library collection is protected by an electronic checkpoint at the exit. If the alarm goes off, please cooperate with library staff. You may be subjected to a body search. It is strongly urged that coats, jackets, briefcases, bookbags, etc. be left at the cloak room.

D. ONLINE CATALOG (BLISS)
The BLISS catalog is searchable on the internet, and computer terminals are available in both libraries. They are used for searching the catalog of the library collections by author, title, subject, L.C. classification number, keyword, etc.

Once an item is found in the computer the user may check which library it is in and whether it is available or not without going to the shelf. If it has been borrowed, the computer will indicate the due date and whether another user has reserved it. The reader can reserve it in his own name at the BLISS terminal. In addition to the book collection, items such as journals, audiocassettes, videocassettes and all other non-book materials are found in the catalog. Before going to the shelves the user should make note of the entire classification number.

E. BOOK COLLECTION
The Bilkent Library book collection is shelved in accordance with The Library of Congress Classification Scheme, in which subjects are arranged under letters of the alphabet. The book collection is housed at both the Main and East Campus Libraries.

Periodical records include the year in which Bilkent Library began collecting the journal, whether the issues are bound or current, and location information. Current print journals are listed by title on the web as well. In addition, a printed catalog for journals can be found in the Periodicals Rooms and the Reference Rooms of both libraries.

The Library also has a significant electronic journals collection. More than 20.000 journals can be found by searching the Library's Electronic Journals web page.
