How to Use Inter-Library Loan
Bilkent academic staff and graduate students in need of materials
not found in the Bilkent Library collection may borrow from other libraries.
This serves is provided in two ways:
1. Through inter-library use agreements with certain Ankara libraries.
Users wishing to borrow materials from libraries which have agreements
with Bilkent should apply to the Bilkent Library circulation desks for
the necessary form. They than borrow books from the other library and
return them themselves.
2. Through the library (other libraries in Ankara and elsewhere in Turkey
as well as libraries outside Turkey)
Users should apply to the Inter-library Loan Service in the Main Library.
Books are borrowed from other libraries according to certain rules.
*Average
Turnaround Period
Loans from libraries in Turkey: 5-10 days
Loans from international libraries: 2 months
Photocopies from libraries in Turkey: 5-10 days
Photocopies from international libraries: 15 - 20 days
*Please
keep in mind that these are average turnaround times. Turnaround
time depends on the availability of the item
at the lending institution, the
response time on the part of the lending institution,
and shipping.
Rush Request for Inter-Library
Loan
If you need an item urgently you may
request a rush order. This means that the order will be given priority
by Bilkent University Library, and rush shipping methods will be used.
Again, please keep in mind that turnaround time will still vary
according to the location and, in particular, the response of the lending
institution. You will be responsible for rush shipping fees, which must
be paid when you pick up the materials.
Inter-Library Loan Fees
    Most book
and photocpy requests placed through inter-library loan are fulfilled
free of charge to Bilkent faculty, students and staff. (See
exceptions below)
    There is
also no fee for borrowing most dissertations via inter-library loan. In
cases where the dissertation cannot be borrowed, the library will purchase
the dissertation for the permanent collection.
Exceptions:
If the total borrowing and shipping fees exceed US$45 per citation, then
the library user will be responsible for the remainder of the cost. (Most
inter-library loan requests, including international requests, do not
exceed US$45 per citation.) Library users will be charged shipping fees
for rush requests even if the total borrowing fee does not exceed US$45.
Library users must pay these fees when they pick up the requested materials.
Payment options: Borrowing fees in excess of US$45 per citation
and rush shipping fees should be paid in Turkish lira at the rate of exchange
listed by the Central Bank on the date of payment.
